Church Overview
Old Paramus Reformed Church is a caring, welcoming church supporting multiple parish ministries as well as local missions and the community. We have been ministering in Ridgewood, NJ for over 300 years and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We have an active congregation with an exceptional music program. Our services are held in a beautiful, historic sanctuary and are live-streamed.
Qualifications Required
A clear calling to pastoral ministry and strong commitment to the authority of Scripture and the core tenets of the Reformed faith. Strong executive function, vision and organizational skills. Ordained in the Reformed Church in America or a denomination that shares communion with us. Proven pastoral leadership experience.
Key Responsibilities
The pastor will serve as the primary spiritual and executive leader of the congregation, working collaboratively with the elders/consistory to shepherd the church, equip members for ministry, and guide the church forward in growth and vitality. Provide compassionate pastoral care, counseling, visitation, and prayer as called for in walking alongside those encountering life transitions, crises and spiritual growth. Encourage spiritual maturity and discipleship within the congregation.
Preaching and Teaching
Proclaim the Word of God faithfully and clearly through Christ centered preaching, which is Biblically sound, and relevant to daily life. Support and encourage Christian education and discipleship for all. Lead and oversee worship services in accordance with Reformed theology. Work collaboratively with the Music Director. Administer the Sacraments faithfully and reverently.
Leadership and Vision
Bring fresh energy, thoughtful ideas, and creative approaches to ministry while respecting Church order and honoring church legacy within the guidelines of Church governance and structure. Help discern and articulate vision aligned with Scripture, the Church’s beliefs, and its local context. Foster unity, humility, and love within the body of Christ. Lead monthly Consistory meetings and attend other team meetings as indicated.
Outreach and Community Engagement
Help the church remain welcoming, relevant, and engaged with those outside the congregation. Encourage outreach in the local community. Continue to build relationships within Ridgewood and surrounding areas and participate in community events.
Qualifications Desired
Willingness to officiate at weddings and funerals. spiritually mature and prayerful. Humble, and approachable. Resilient, adaptable, and grounded in Christ. Committed to unity, peace and faithful shepherding. An energetic and relational leadership style. Open-minded and thoughtful toward new ideas and ministry approaches. Comfortable engaging across generations.
