Coordinator for Hispanic Ministries


 Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  1. To implement the goals of the General Synod Council with special sensitivity to the needs and concerns of  Hispanics and Latinos, in collaboration with GSC staff and the Hispanic Council Executive Committee.
  2. Lead Hispanic-constituent congregations and people to go deeper into discipleship, leadership, multiplication and mission through partnership with the GSC Equipping Team.
  3. To initiate new church development projects in Hispanic and Latino communities and to work with existing Hispanic congregations in exploring affiliation with the RCA. The coordinator will consult with the appropriate synod staff and classes and will work in cooperation with the Church Multiplication Team.
  4. To coordinate efforts in congregational revitalization in existing Hispanic and Latino congregations; drawing on the gifts and talents of all RCA staff, especially members of the congregational mission cluster.
  5. To recruit, orient, equip and develop new Hispanic pastors to serve in existing congregations and develop new congregations.
  6. To communicate the issues, concerns and needs of Hispanics and Latinos to the GSC, regional synod, and classis staff as appropriate; and to assist in developing programs to meet specific needs of these constituencies.
  7. To assist the Executive Committee of the Hispanic Council in their planning for meetings and operations; planning for the annual Hispanic Assembly and other gatherings for Hispanic members of the RCA; developing reports and other communications to the General Synod Council and other groupings; and representing the council as appropriate.
  8. To provide advice and counsel to the executive committee and the Hispanic Council relative to advocacy for Hispanic and Latino concerns and relative to the goals and objectives established by the General Synod and carried out through the GSC, its staff and its committees.
  9. To support other RCA program emphases such as orientation of new congregations; orientation of Hispanic and Latino lay leaders in RCA polity, history and doctrine; youth ministries; lay leadership events; visiting Hispanic pastors; and assisting Hispanic and Latino congregations in discipleship education and leadership development.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

 Essential Qualifications:

  1. Committed to the mission and vision of the RCA.
  2. Bachelors degree in ministry, religion or a related field.
  3. Ability to travel up to 60 day per year.
  4. Three to five years experience in leading a Hispanic or Latino congregation.
  5. A demonstrated passion for an equitable, just, multiracial society and the ability to articulate bibilical theology from a reformed perspective to complex racial and social/policitical issues.
  6. Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Hispanic and Latino culture.
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated ability to manage a budget.
  9. A working knowledge of various social media platforms.
  10. Recognized gifts of leadership, equipping, encouragement and communication.
  11. Fuency in Spanish.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education, ministry, religion, or a related field.
  2. Ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament, a commissioned pastor, or currently working toward those certifications.
