Celebrating Women’s History Month as a Church in a Time of Peace and Justice

In our Reformed Tradition women play significant roles in ministry, serving as denominational staff, teachers, missionaries, chaplains, professors, administrators, Sunday School specialists, and clergy. These women impact local and global ministry through preaching, evangelism, non-profit work, and authoring books.

Historically, women in the RCA have been active in mission work, both locally and globally, drawing inspiration from biblical figures like Deborah, Phoebe, Ruth, Haggai, Hannah, Ezra, and Mary Magdalene. These ministries have formed women’s guilds that identify and nurture gifted women in education, ministry, healthcare, and church services.

Attending the RCWM Triennial (REFORMED CHURCH WOMEN IN MINISTRY) with my spouse, I witnessed the spiritual renewal and leadership development opportunities for women. The RCWM hosted influential speakers like Maya Angelou, Anne Lamott, and the late Barbara Alexander, who inspired attendees to embrace their callings.

I commend RSNY women and those in Classes, women who have dedicated their lives to furthering God’s Church, opening opportunities for women to serve as Ministers, Elders, Deacons, and in fellowship roles.

Prayerfully,

Rev. Dr. Micheal Edwards, Executive Minister
